weeeelllll I'd vote for vertical if you are going with the forest theme - most forests are mostly vertical in orientation. I like this piece a lot - I'm always drawn to earth colors, and the repetition in the sworls is nice, too. I don't know that I'd do much more with it other than some interesting hand-stitching using (perhaps) hand-dyed crochet thread to highlight some of the more forest-y elements.
That's what I thought until I saw it horizontal and then I started thinking about soil layers, and the red ribbon weaving through it what is that exactly a worm? A mineal ribbon??? But when I look at it horizontally it has a totally different persona.
I'd go vertical - try up the other way though... this looks lovely and I think would be greatly enahnced by all-over hand quilting with some yummy thread - the fabric is silk - so try one with some sheen which will add another layer to the composition...biggish stitches on the front, little ones through to the back
One more vote for vertical, but turned again. The center rippling dimishes in scale and I see that needing to be at the top. I don't so much see a forest, just wonderful abstract shapes

ReplyDeleteVERTICAL-you can't have it both ways--teehee!
ReplyDeleteVERTICAL--you can't have it both ways, yeah?
ReplyDeleteI get more sense of rhythm with the horizontal format... the sensation of softly rippling water.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL either way.

ReplyDeleteFirst iimpression says vertical. the rhythms of the colors just look like they are growth, earth colors, rather than waves, water colors.

Horizontal, but perhaps with the darker edge down.
ReplyDeleteVertical for me too, but with the darker bit at the bottom.
ReplyDeleteVertical too!
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your help, this has been very supportive to me!
