Well the water heater died sometime between last night and this morning. I was a third of the way through my shower when I realized that the water was getting colder, NOT hotter! It's rather cold here in Iowa in February and while yes the house is heated, I gotta tell you a cold shower in the winter is no fun! It was a quick shower.
So this afternoon's activities involved going to Lowe's, I needed black duck tape for a journal project, so we could look at water heaters. There's a LOT of choices out there on the market right now like do we want 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60 gallon unit, do you want it to be energy star ok I thought they were ALL energy star now but apparently not, what kind of warranty do we want, so on and so forth.
We came home w/o a water heater, no suprise there right? I will be making some phone calls tomorrow morning, in addition to cleaning out the laundry and furnaces rooms to make way for the new unit, and the eventual removal of the old unit.
Until then it's sponge baths and cold showers!

Oh boy, hope it's up and running for you soon. I told Hubby we need to look into a wood burning water boiler.
If we lived in the country I think this is what I would choose to have.
“We came home w/o a water heater, no suprise there right?” – That is definitely not the kind of thing you want to discover upon coming home, especially on a weather like that. How is it now? I hope the plumber came in immediately so you wouldn’t have to suffer for a long time.

We have a brand new water heater, only took a week to get it installed but we now have hot water!
A broken water heater is not the news you wanted to discover at home. And it’s even more disappointing when you spent your whole afternoon looking for a new one and end up with nothing. Anyway, you should just chalk this up as a bad experience, because now you have a new water heater. Yay for hot water! Haha!

I can only imagine how freezing it must've been. I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to survive showering with cold water during the winter. I don't know how you did it, but I do hope your water heater is fixed by now. I probably would've gone on days without showering if it meant avoiding the freezing water.
