Crazy Bird

This morning there was a really weird bird outside in the tree, and it's pretty annoying at that. Did I mention it was "really" early in the morning! I didn't see what it looked like but when it first started singing it sounded like a bird, then it sounded like power steering unit, on a car, going out. It squawled like you would not believe and then it ended it's song tweeting like a bird again. It did this for the better part of two hours. Really annoying.

There was a Blue Jay outside this morning, in our tree trying to rescue it's nest, but I don't think it was the Jay. Anyway... I could really use some sleep.

Kimberley,

WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL SPRING WORLD THAT IS MOCKINGBIRD HEAVEN. (or hell).

The female Mocker will choose the male in the region that has the most diverse song. So the males learn to immitate everything around them that they hear. When we are lucky, they concentrate on the other birds around them. When we aren't lucky, the choose to learn the sounds of human existence around them.

This WILL continue for the next couple months. Usually from sunset to sunrise. Just thank goodness that your Mocker hasn't learned these sounds:

1. a cell phone ringing.
2. a cat in heat.
3. "you've got mail"
4. the garbage truck backing up.
